Dota 2. Thoughts EG.Maelk on the 6.75 patch.
The new DotA update, 6.75, brought a huge amount of changes to the game. Dota 2 has been updated to the latest version of WC3 DotA, EvilGeniuses.net I decided to interview the captain of EG.Dota , Jacob ” Maelk” Toft-Andersen and get his opinion on the new changes in Dota 2.
A huge number of balance changes at 6.75, IceFrog seems to have decided to bring more heroes into professional DotA. Do you think this patch will bring back long-forgotten heroes?
The changes that I have highlighted for myself as a fan of “tanks” are changes in such heroes as Doom Bringer, Alchemist and Spirit Breaker. These three heroes have undergone the most major changes and I will be surprised if they will not be more games than before.
We’ve seen a lot of EG games with Spirit Breaker before its changes. Can you tell us about its advantages in your strategies?
Spirit Breaker is theoretically a very strong hero, the reason being his ability to instantly attack, despite being a melee hero, he kills thanks to his passive camp (Greater Bash now punches Black King Bar). In addition, his aura of movement speed benefits the entire team as well as the Track, Drums of Endurance and Kobold aura.
In the new patch, some popular heroes received a lot of fixes. Do you think the interest in these characters will disappear because of simplifications? The community just exploded outrage about fixes Morphling. What do you think will leave if he peaks in top communication with the fixes? What do you think about Lycan’s wolf fix?
Both of these heroes that Morphling that Lycan will peak on the situation, but definitely not on the first stage of peaks. Some people don’t agree with me about Lycan even though It has lost some of its Pharma forest features, it is still also strong. Yes wolves have become weaker, but have them emerged magic resist and collecting Book of Necromicon Lycan all also is famously mismanaging with pushem buildings.
What do you think about 2 new heroes? Will they be pictured in professional games? How will they be used in the peak?
I haven’t played any of them, but I think Zet, the Arc Warden, will be unbalanced in the right hands. Now Meepo will simply yuzless against good Zet’a with decent farm. Ulta’s small cooldown makes him a unique hero with all sorts of items ranging from early Hand of Midas and Necromicon, to Scythe of Vyse and Manta Style or Dagon on the extreme! The other hero, Auroth, didn’t hit me. He has interesting abilities and is good for supporting, but I don’t think he will become popular. I thought it was a mix of Shadow Demon and Crystal Maiden.
What do you think about the peak/ban phase. In the first stage now 2 of the ban and a great emphasis is now placed on the second phase of bans. How do you think this will change professional DotA?
I think it will now be harder to use a pre-conceived strategy, as teams have to choose an “imbalance” in the first phase to prevent the enemy from picking these heroes. I think the new system is more balanced. But before it was easier to avoid the peaks of such heroes as Dark Seer, Naga Siren, Morphling, Rubick, Templar Assassin, etc.
As the statistics showed the former Captain’s Mode was quite balanced between the first and second peak. Do you think changes in the peak/ban phase will affect the balance, reducing the importance of the first peak?
I think it depends more on the preferences of the team. Some teams prefer to pick the right heroes in the stage of the first peak/bans, and others prefer to reveal their idea in the last seconds. It seems to me that there are advantages in both ways and these advantages can not be changed by the new version of the map, because the peak of the last hero you can erase the enemy’s peak, and the first peak gives you the opportunity to take those heroes you want. I noticed one trend on the International 2, for teams the priority was the ability to pick first, because it allowed you to ban those heroes that your opponent likes to play, and Dark Seer, Naga Siren’a, Rubick and Lycanthrope will be banned anyway, because they are too good to give them to your opponent. At least that’s what people think.
Do you think fix IMBA heroes will improve the game or it will lead to complete chaos?
In the first month of game changes, I think we will see a lot of games in which everyone can win, because not everyone has fully studied what heroes were cut and what are not. Who will analyse the trend of certain characters, he will be ahead of the game. The flexibility of the style of play and ingenuity will undoubtedly lead the team to the top, I think Na’vi has repeatedly proved this to us and will prove it again.
What do you think of the new gold count for the murders? Do you think this will lead to more aggressive gang arrangements?
Without a doubt, Yes. Obviously, teams that like to play aggressively liked this change. Pudge Dendi has now become even more dangerous. Basically, this patch will increase the pace of the game and unfortunately this advantage will grow as a snowball and kambeki vryatli will be possible.
What do you think about changing The aegis timer? Now when the Aegis is lost before you receive the Roshan will team to take advantage of it more aggressively than before? Will this change contribute to the transition to a more aggressive European and American style than the tolerant Chinese?
As well as most other changes it will allow teams to fight earlier and significantly increase the pace of the game. I’m sure it will lead to a lot of bad decisions, but it will end the game much sooner.
Do you think the item changes will affect the balance of the game?
I think we will see more Armlets and dagons, given how they were raised, but I think the winners among the items in this patch are Dominator and Vale, as well as the lower cost of wards.
