Dota 2 FPS Issue (Frostivus Patch)
I’ve been searching relentlessly online for a fix to this problem, and when I went to open a ticket I was (thankfully) linked to this website. After capping my FPS at 60, 30, etc. and doing all sorts of terrifying things to my game files, there is still no fix in sight for me. Prior to the frostivus patch DotA was running smoothly (enough) for me but the instant the winter map dropped everything went to hell. I know for a fact that it isn’t my video cards inability to render some snow particles because I literally transitioned from Skyrim at max settings (looks like a movie) to DotA 2 (I can’t even tell what’s going on, I’ve never had to deal with sub-60 FPS in a game before). Prior to the Frostivus patch I was experiencing 60+ FPS and now I’m sitting around 20 with very VERY frequent 1 second drops and in teamfights it goes under 10. I’m concerned that Valve is ignoring this problem, so I opened a ticket with them. Will get back to you fellows if they give me a fix.
Specs:
Processor: Intel Core i7 950 @3.07GHz Bloomfield 45nm Technology
Ram: 8.00 GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 533MHz (8-8-8-19)
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series*
* I note that this may be a problem with AMD Video Cards? I recently updated my drivers to current in hopes that it may fix the issue. It hasn’t. I’ve sunk 700+ hours into DotA2 and more money than I’d like to think about. Please get my favorite game back up and running, Valve!
apart from fps, you getting lag problems? i used to have 170 ms always, now it changes all the time from 180 to 280 (in us east, im frmo argentina)
No my ping doesn’t fluctuate much, but my “in” constantly spikes every time a very small thing happens. I notice yours is at 436 there, mine jumps from 80-1000 throughout my game. I’m not 100% sure this is what’s contributing the the constant delay, lag, and screen tearing, but there’s at least correlation if not causation because it spikes when my game preforms worse.
Off topic: I tried running dota on my asus laptop (running an non-amd video card) and dota runs beautifully. This may very well be a video card compatibility issue.
Yeah, my stuff is AMD, but then this problem with amd has been added with the recent patch i guess. It used to run so good before.
Im 100% sure that this amd problem is affecting my ping. it starts on 180 then it starts increasing till 280.
Has anyone with a similar problem been able to fix it? Valve is taking their sweet time responding to me and I’ve been unable to play dota for a week now.
I’m having the exact same issue. Since the Frostivus update I’m having something I’d call FPS spikes, which is even worse than steady low FPS – in one area I can have my 40-50 fps, then somewhere else, particularily when laning, I’m having FPS drops to
Mind you, performance in other games hasn’t changed, and I haven’t changed any D2 settings since a few months. The ping is fine. It’s just that microstuttering. Core2Duo 3.0GHz, 2 gigs of ram, hd4850 512mb – old but it worked great before with just ssao/fsaa off and textures to medium.
