Mouse Pointer Problem / Bug Ingame Dota2 (Black Comb-Shaped Pointer) *FIXED*

Hey guys. I’ve been catching this bug frequently now but not in all the games that i play.

I do not know what i do but somehow ingame my mouse changes from the normal arrow pointer to a comb-shaped black bar. It works fine and normally just like any pointer would, but what irritates me a lot since playing the comb-shaped blackbar pointer ingame i can’t really do any precise clicking, since there isn’t a definite shape to the mouse. Even after game when i close Dota 2 the Black comb pointer still occurs as i’m typing this right now it’s just here and i’m using it. The pointer restarts as a normal pointer when i reboot the PC. I do not know how this happens, but i am quite certain that this ONLY happens in Dota2 no other game in my PC actually bugs my mousepointer like this.

I would take a screen shot of it but i tried PrtScn and paste the pointer wasn’t seen in the photo, so any suggestions on

-how to fix the problem
-how to screenshot with the mouse pointer
-and people who are having the same problems will be greatly appreciated.

Update: 5/2/12 , 9/21/12

The Black Comb-Shaped Pointer is NOT a problem with Dota 2. It happens whenever the pointer is in a stressful switching animation area ex.(when the mouse pointer goes back and forth on the yellow shop button.) Extra info.

The problem is with the ATI / AMD Radeon Graphics Cards. Specifically series “4850-7850”
And according to other people from other forums it DOES happen to other games as well ex. SC2 & TF2, as long as you have an outdated AMD / ATI Radeon Graphics Card Driver installed

5 ways to get rid of the black comb-shaped mousepointer

When ingame
1) Minimize the Dota2 Window by pressing the *Start button.
2) Go back to Dota 2
3) Left* Click the Yellow shop button three-five times
-If it doesn’t work Repeat from step 1.

After the game. (Updating your Graphic Card)
1) Close Dota 2
2) Click Steam Main Window (Where all of the News, Community etc. are in)
3) Upper Left Corner of the Window click *Steam*
4) Click on Update AMD Video Drivers.
5) Wait for the Download to Finish.
6) Install and Reboot the PC.

After the game *or* while the game is paused.
1) Right click desktop
2) Screen res
3) Only show display on second monitor
4) click apply and then revert when box pops up (takes roughly 10 seconds)

When in-game
1) Hit the start button that will make you go to the desktop.
2) Go back to Dota 2 and swipe your mouse pointer back and forth the screen really fast.
*More often the not the mouse pointer will become the small pointer you use in the desktop, then after sometime it will go back to the original dota 2 gaming pointer.
3) If it doesn’t work repeat from Step 1.

Last Way to get rid of it is simply Reboot the PC, but it might be a hassle for other people with slow startup so i included the other three other alternative ways on fixing it.

[NOTE THAT ALL THE FIX LISTED HERE HAVE BEEN TESTED AND HAVE WORKED. ]

I’ve been playing for about a month now and updating your graphic card drivers doesn’t really stop the problem fully, but you can instantly fix it.

Simply when you see the black comb shaped mouse pointer bug hit the start button that will make you go to the desktop. Go back to Dota 2 and swipe your mouse pointer back and forth the screen really fast. More often the not the mouse pointer will become the small pointer you use in the desktop, then after sometime it will go back to the original dota 2 gaming pointer.
