So, I got this hero challenge to win with Chen, but I lost all four matches I recently played with him. I consider myself to be an average player: a lot are better, a lot are worse.
So I jungle with him, stack camps and farm them of with the birds tornado once I have one. If I get a creep with stun or net I go to the lanes for a gank, and once I got several bigger creeps I also join to push the lane and kill a tower. I use my ult in team fights, teleport players of my team back that are most likely going to die any moment, and use my other skills to weaken and damage opponents. And I buy a courier and wards if nobody else does, and smoke and dust. And I get arcane boots and a mek, and after that a scepter and guardian greeves and whatnot.
Sure, some things I don’t do perfectly fine, but I think all in all it works.
Still, somehow I have the feeling that I’m not achieving too much after half an hour. Yes, I can gank opponents and stun and net them, but I will then lack the damage to kill them by myself, so unless the team joins there is no ganking. I also can’t push without the team, because any opponent with a disable can kill me easily enough. In team fights I help with the auras of my creeps and the heals and with a stun or two, but again, else I can’t do much.
So compared to supports like Witch Doctor I feel pretty useless. He has easier to use stuns and can annihilate entire teams with his ult. Same as CM. And Lion can pulverize lone heroes by himself and got also multiple disables.
Anyone got any advice? Just keep playing him until I get better or by random chance win a match?
I also considered forgetting all the creep stuff, and instead going Dagon-Chen, since it somewhat synergizes with his Q ability. But I assume that if I do that I’ll just get flamed by teammates. Well, or that I assume that if we lose, while I have this built, that it was to quite some degree my fault.
You need to understand how all the creep abilities work.
Build Aghs. Convert Ancient Granite Golem to get aoe 15% bonus HP. Also convert an Alpha Wolf for the Packleader’s Aura which gives aoe 30% bonus attack damage.
Other creeps provide armor reduction, attack slow, move slow, stuns, etc. Just gotta know what to convert and when. Ancient Granite Golem and Alpha Wolf will be the most useful for your team in winning fights as well as for pushing.
Maybe watch some people playing him and practice a lot your micro. Stack a lot the large camps and use the big bird neutral spell to farm them. Get aghs, mek and arcane boots, join teamfights with your team and do your best to finish the game as fast as you can.
You should probably only try him when your micro is at least ok, because you are going to have control a lot of creeps. When you get your aghs, always try to get control of one ancient golem. His aura of 15% extra heath is quite neat. Don’t let your creeps die btw. You can send them back to base with your spell (can’t remember the name now).
My micro is still pretty bad, so I don’t really want to play with him before working on that.

From what I read you’re doing everything fine. There are just some people who get (certain) micro heroes. Yours truly rekt with Chen the first time he played him, much like he rekt with Enchantress the first time he played her back when he had 20 hours. I say “certain” since I can’t play Meepo for buck. I’m decent at Chen and Enchantress, good as Lone Druid and Broodmother, and godlike as Lycan.
But one thing worth noting:
Chen gets much less useful as the game goes on. It’s not Chen, it’s his creeps. At the start of the game creep abilities, as well as their massive health when compared to the other ♥♥♥♥ you’ll find in lane, can devastate any ill-prepared enemy, and sometimes a fairly well set one. But later on players will start buying BKBs, as well as Health, Armor, Damage etc. And what will Chen have then? Well, he has a nice damage amp/slow, as well as a decent nuke. He also has that dumb global heal. Yep. You’ve basically got nothing since your main driving force is gone.
If you pick Chen be prepared for a short game. Not an “All pushers I NEED TO DESTROY A BARRACK BY 25:00 FOR COMPENDIUM GO GO GO!” I do actually have a challenge to destroy any barrack by 25 mins. Christ that’s going to be a ♥♥♥♥fest. but rather a “Don’t let this go into late game because we’ll basically be running 4v5 if it gets past 45:00.” game. Chen falls off in the late game purely because of how he works.
Early game get farm, get ganks, and get pushing. Grab a Hill Troll (Spooki Skeletonz go a long way) and a Alpha Wolf (15% bonus damage yus) and slap that tower like it owes you money! It does, after all. You need your Aghs as soon as possible. Once you get Aghs, kidnap some Ancients (One of each kind, key being Granite Golems. They give you bonus HP. Dunno why.) and pretend you’re giving birth and PUSH!
But keep going on it, much like I keep going on Nyx Assassin.
Been stuck on the bastard for nearly a year now. Have had about 6 games to no avail.
Fun to All-Hero heroes I have a 20% win rate as.
