What is happening here sounds like computers ram issue. As in, not enough ram and behaviour youre describing sounds to me exactly like so. I say that because of my own experience with 4gb ram, I assume what youre talking about is a laptop, and if yes, then thats one of main reasons performance is worse.
What I can suggest is what Im doing to battle these problems. You can try it out and if you see no difference. well at least you tried. Read it all and make decision by yourself.
I got ”Advanced system care” (ASC) program free version and reason for that is that it got a ram cleaning tool. Now, some people say its useless, but to me, it gives results because I also got a weak setup right now.
So what you do is, get free version of that program, and it has an option to disable alot of background programs in order to free up ram (That option is called Turbo Boost).
Additionally, you can in that same program disable a ton of startup programs which you essentially dont need and they stay on whole time your machine is on. (of course after you disable them, you restart your machine.)
Another thing is you get a little icon on your desktop from that ASC program which when you click, it frees up your ram even more. Then, you open Dota2, and make sure everything else is closed, including steam friend list, steam itself, steam browser, any other browser (especially google chrome).
If you refuse to download and install any programs, then you can also use tools provided by windows by default.
For example, click ctrl+shift+escape and Task manager will open. See under tab ”processes” what exactly is using your disk, cpu and network and close them accordingly (unless they are windows processes. If you dont know what it is better dont touch it.)
Also in Task manager you have ”Startup” tab that basically is used for that we already discussed, which is disabling startup processes. How is it different than program I suggested? ASC has aloooot more customization options that windows by default doesnt provide and has ram freeing up tools. Thats all.
