I can play DotA 2 in 3D on a 3D monitor but in a VR headset it’s on a 3D project FlatScreen.

Can this be any less of an effort?

I hope this is a joke, you can totally jump into the mini map and watch the battles up close in full 3D. Even scale your’self to hero size to watch the fights like you’re standing on the battlefield.

ya but not in normal 3d game perspectice. only the wierd zoom thing that you would never play the game with.

I’m guessing you have never play DotA 2 on a 3D monitor or you would not have made this uninformed comment.

And I have an Oculus Rift. Showcase View is not a GAMEPLAY mode.

Using Steam VR places a flatscreen in 3d space but not a 3d rendered game screen.

Since you are deluded and don’t understand I will try to help:

“Theatre Mode provides the user with an immersive experience while playing normal games. The game itself remains in normal-mode; however, the new VR mode displays a 3D environment of a virtual living room and large flat screen where the game is displayed.”

There is no normal 3D conversion like on a normal 3D monitor.

With DotA 2 the gameplay is on a 2D plane in a 3D room with other 3D elements like the map that would normaly be part of the HUD but is now removed and made 3D itself.

There is no 3D in Steam VR of the actual non VR games. even though and game that uses a 3D game engine can be played in 3D on a 3D monitor this is not the case in Steam VR for some odd reason.

nVidia and AMD drivers already allow strait conversion to 3D monitors but you need VorpX for this to occur on HMD’s until these video card makers make it built in just like they already do with 3D monitors.

But as a game maker like Valve they can add this to any game that has been made in a 3D game engine with little effort just as CodeMasters did recently with DiRT. well after the game was released they simply added the VR element to it and released it as an update.

These optimized drivers are just repackedged API’s that allowed 3D conversion straight out of the box for 3D games on 3D monitors but now allow this on an HMD.

Why Valve would not include this in Steam VR or this DotA fanfare is beyond me.

It literally is as easy as flipping a switch to get this 2D game image floating in 3D space to be a 3D game image floating in 3D space.

Side by Side of the game image is build into the drivers.. has been for years.

“If the application that you are running (e. g. ParaView/ImageSurfer/Stereo Spin) can produce a 3D format (side-by-side/checkerboard/top-bottom/interleaved) that is compatible with your 3DTv (this depends on the cable input port of your Tv, the latest cable format is HDMI 1.4), then you can run the application in 3D.”

Left side is put to the left 2D game plane and and Right is put into the right 2D plane of the HMD.

Not total VR immersion but an actual 3D game image just like on a 3D monitor.

Not all games should be in VR immersion but all of the 3D engine games should be displayed on a 3D monitor in 3D space within an HMD.

Of course using a dual lense projector you should know most of this driver stuff already.. you are just ignorant on the HMD stuff.
